Day 5
1. Today, your student will read this week's reader aloud to you. When he has done this, find the correct Book Cover Cut-Out for the Reading Chart* and help him put it on the correct place. Take time to celebrate.
2. Using an encyclopedia or other reference, find three facts about pigs. Show your student any pictures you find. Discuss the facts and list on a piece of paper.
3. Pigs are primarily farm animals raised for food. Some pigs end up at 4-H fairs for show. Visit a livestock show or a farm if possible.
4. Locate the activity sheet on page 85 in the Student Activity Book (download PDF file). Discuss it with your student:
On this page, you see many animals and objects. Some of them usually are found on a farm, and some are usually found in a jungle.
Ask your student to color and cut out each picture. Put all the farm items in one pile and all the jungle items in another pile. Check the piles to be sure they are correct. If an item is in the wrong pile, explain the correction to your student and move it to the proper pile. Use two pieces of paper or a Double Story Chart, and label one "Farm" and the other "Jungle." (See Appendix page 190 (download PDF file).) Ask your student to create a farm scene on one and a jungle scene on the other with the items and animals that were cut out.
5. Ask your student to complete page 80 in the Student Activity Book (download PDF file).
