Optional: Visit a live stock show or farm.

Day 1

1. Read A Kit from Kim (download PDF file) to your student, including the sounds listed on the New Sound page in the front of the reader and the sight words on page 9 (download PDF file) .

2. Read the story to your student a second time. Give the book to him, and ask him too retell the story in his own words.

3. Find the activity sheet for this lesson on page 77 in the Student Activity Book (download PDF file). Ask your student to cut out the pictures and put them in the order they happened, using the book to check the correct order.

4. Ask your student to cut out the sentence strips found at the bottom of the pictures and match the sentence to the correct picture using the book as a guide. He may attempt to read the sentences to you, or you may read them to him.

5. Teach your student the correct formation of j, w, and k using page 79 in the Student Activity Book (download PDF file) as a guide. Make the letters in the air first and then on unlined paper. Limit the practice to five formations of each letter, ask him to say the sound it makes.
